【1】新型コロナウイルスで変わるソフィア会活動
SUAA Activities Changing in Response to the Novel Coronavirus

残念ながら、新型コロナウイルスとの戦いは長期化の様相を呈してきました。世間では、この夏に向けてのイベントも次々と中止しています。ソフィア会もウイルスとの長期戦に備える必要が出てきました。
そこで、ソフィア会は現在閉鎖中のソフィアンズクラブを、とりあえず9月まで延長して閉鎖することを決めました。四谷キャンパス自体入構禁止となっていますが、会員同士が対面で打合せすることなどを極力避けなくてはなりません。また、すでにお伝えしているように、5月の全国代議員会やオールソフィアンの集い（ASF）、同時に行われる祝典なども四谷キャンパスでは行いません。会報「ソフィアンズナウ」の発行も多少遅れます。
しかし、それによってソフィア会活動が休止状態に陥ったわけではありません。顔を合わさなくても会員同士が交流し、大学を支援する活動は可能です。実際に、ASF実行委員会はオンライン形式での"集い"、つまりオンラインASFの開催を模索しています。法学部同窓会は年2回開催してきた俳句会を、5月にはメール句会として行います。会員の中にはWeb会議ツール「Zoom」を使って会議や懇親会をしているところもあります。常任委員会は3月からメール形式で行っていますし、5月の全国代議員会も一部の議題を同様の形式で行う予定です。
こうしたオンラインによる活動、つまり「オンライン・ソフィア会」は時間、空間の壁を越えて実現できるというメリットもあります。電子メールが従来の郵便に取って代わったように、また医療分野でオンライン診療が認可されたように、オンライン・ソフィア会が将来より大きな力を持つ可能性もあります。
上智大学も、5月25日よりオンライン授業を開始します。これについて大学は「キャンパスで直接皆さんと触れ合う教育機会が提供されないことは残念です。しかし、この危機的状況を乗り切るために、皆さんのご理解を頂きたい」とコメントしていますが、その思いはソフィア会も同じです。この危機的状況を乗り切るためご理解とご協力をお願いします。

Unfortunately, it appears as though the battle to overcome the new coronavirus is going to be lengthy. Social events scheduled for this summer are being canceled one after another. The Sophia University Alumni Association (SUAA), as well, needs to be prepared for a prolonged fight against this virus.
SUAA has thus decided to extend the closure of the currently closed Sophians Club initially until September.
The Yotsuya Campus itself is off-limits, and it is important for alumni to avoid face-to-face meetings as much as possible. Furthermore, as has previously been announced, the Conference of National Representatives of SUAA, the All Sophians' Festival (ASF) and the coinciding 2020 Anniversary Ceremonies which were scheduled in May will not be held on the Yotsuya Campus. The publication of the SUAA bulletin, SOPHIANS NOW, will be delayed somewhat.
However, that does not mean SUAA activities will become dormant. Even if you don't meet face-to-face, SUAA members can interact with one another and support the University. As a case in point, the ASF Executive Committee is exploring the possibility of holding a 'festival' online, or in other words, a virtual ASF. The Faculty of Law branch of the SUAA will use e-mail to electronically conduct its upcoming biannual haiku poetry gathering in May. Some alumni are using the Zoom web conferencing tool for their meetings and get-togethers.
Standing Committees have been using the email format since March, and part of the agenda for the Conference of National Representatives of SUAA will be addressed in a similar format this May.
Such online activity, or Online SUAA, advantageously transcends spatial and temporal barriers. Just as email has replaced traditional postal service mail, and just as the medical field has accredited online medical care, Online SUAA may have much value in the future.
Sophia University will also begin online classes on Monday May 25th. Commenting on this, the University said, "It is unfortunate that we are not able to offer you a firsthand educational opportunity on campus. However, we hope you will understand so that we can overcome this critical situation," and SUAA shares that wish.
