ワシントンD.C.にて現役生と卒業生との交流会

8月29日、上智大学の短期海外研修プログラム「The World is my Campus: Experiencing American Politics, Economy and Media」の一環として米国を訪れた上智大学の学生9名と、ワシントンD.C.ソフィア会の卒業生との交流会が開催されました。
本プログラムを受け持つニューヨーク・ソフィア会の我謝京子氏から、政治の中心地であるワシントンD.C.で活躍するソフィアの先輩方と学生との交流の機会を設けたいとのご連絡をいただき、ワシントンD.C.ソフィア会会長・中阪清志氏のご厚意により、Cosmos Clubにて交流会が実現しました。
当日は、学生の皆さんとワシントンD.C.で活躍する卒業生が一堂に会し、自己紹介をはじめ、それぞれの学生生活や海外での経験、キャリアなど、さまざまな話題について交流しました。世代や立場を超えて率直に話をすることができ、学生にとっては海外で働き、生活する先輩方から直接話を聞く貴重な機会となるとともに、卒業生にとっても、現在の上智大学で学ぶ学生たちと交流する有意義な時間となりました。
私自身、3年前に大学院で学ぶためワシントンD.C.に移り、以来、大学院での学びや生活を通してさまざまな経験を重ねてきました。その間、ワシントンD.C.ソフィア会の皆様にはいつも温かく迎えていただき、さまざまな交流の機会や多くのご縁に恵まれました。
今回の交流が、学生の皆さんにとって今後の学びやキャリアを考える一つのきっかけとなり、また今回生まれたつながりが、ワシントンD.C.、日本、そして世界各地へと続いていくことを願っています。「The World is my Campus」という言葉の通り、大学のキャンパスを越えてソフィアン同士がつながり、学び合うことのできる貴重な交流会となりました。
最後に、今回の交流会開催にご尽力くださった皆様、ワシントンD.C.ソフィア会の皆様、そして参加された学生の皆様に、心より御礼申し上げます。

Tokyo Meets D.C.: Student & Alumni Gathering
On August 29, nine Sophia University students visiting the United States as part of the short-term overseas study program, "The World is my Campus: Experiencing American Politics, Economy and Media," joined members of the Washington D.C. Sophia-kai for an exchange gathering.
The gathering was organized following a request from Ms. Kyoko Gasha of the New York Sophia-kai, who coordinated the program in hopes of providing the students with an opportunity to meet Sophia alumni working in Washington, D.C., the political center of the United States. Thanks to the generous support of Mr. Kiyoshi Nakasaka, President of the Washington D.C. Sophia-kai, the gathering was held at the Cosmos Club.
Throughout the evening, students and alumni introduced themselves and engaged in lively conversations on a wide range of topics, including student life, experiences abroad, and future career paths. The gathering provided the students with a valuable opportunity to hear directly from Sophia alumni who have built their careers and academic lives in the US. At the same time, it offered alumni an opportunity to connect with the current generation of Sophia students and learn about their experiences and aspirations.
Personally, I moved to Washington, D.C. three years ago to pursue my graduate studies, and since then, I have gained many valuable experiences through both my academic journey and personal lives in the greater Washington DC area. Throughout these years, I have always been warmly welcomed by members of Washington D.C. Sophia-kai has been fortunate to enjoy many opportunities to connect with fellow alumni and build meaningful relationships.
I sincerely hope that this gathering will serve as an inspiration for the participating students as they consider their future studies and careers, and that the connections formed here will continue to grow across Washington, D.C., Japan, and other parts of the world. True to the spirit of "The World is my Campus," the evening demonstrated how the Sophia community can continue to connect and learn from one another beyond the boundaries of the university campus.
Lastly, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who helped make this gathering possible, to the members of Washington D.C. Sophia-kai, and to all of the students who joined us.
