ワシントンDCソフィア会ハッピーアワー開催報告

2026年2月20日、本年最初のDCソフィア会ハッピーアワーが開催されました。上智大学卒業生でありワシントンDCソフィア会会長の中阪清志氏（1989外英）のご厚意により、米国でも名高いCosmos ClubのGarden Barをご手配頂きました。ご参加くださいました皆様ならびに本会を企画してくださいましたプライス万利子様、中阪様に厚く御礼申し上げます。
当日は、上智大学に留学されていたMary La Valley様をはじめ、上智大学鎌田助教授ほか計7名のソフィアンがGarden Barに集いました。初めてソフィア会に参加された3名の卒業生を含め、初対面とは思えないほど和やかで親しみ深い雰囲気のなか、素晴らしい料理とお飲み物を囲みながら親睦を深めることができました。
参加者の中には、私を含め米国大学等の研究機関に所属する卒業生もおり、日本と米国の教育・研究環境や社会状況など多岐にわたる話題について意見交換が行われました。米国においてご活躍されているソフィアンの先輩方の豊富なご経験を伺うことができ、大変有意義で学びの多い機会となりました。
ワシントンDCにお越しの際には、ぜひDCソフィア会にお立ち寄りいただけますと幸いに存じます。結びに、ソフィアンの皆様の今後ますますのご活躍とご多幸を心よりお祈り申し上げます。

DC Sophians' Happy Hour Gathering on February 20th
On February 20, 2026, the first DC Sophia Alumni Association Happy Hour of the year was held. Through the generous support of Mr. Kiyoshi Nakasaka, President of the Washington, DC Sophia Alumni Association and a graduate of Sophia University, the gathering took place at the Garden Bar of the renowned Cosmos Club. We extend our sincere appreciation to all who participated, and our particular gratitude to Ms. Mariko Price and Mr. Nakasaka for their efforts in organizing this memorable occasion.
A total of seven Sophians attended, including Mrs. Mary La Valley, who studied at Sophia University, and Associate Professor Kamata of Sophia University. Among the participants were three alumni attending a Sophia gathering for the first time. Despite many meeting one another for the first time, the atmosphere was exceptionally warm and congenial, and participants deepened their connections while enjoying excellent cuisine and refreshments.
Several attendees, myself included, are affiliated with universities and research institutions in the United States. Lively exchanges took place on a wide range of topics, including educational and research environments and broader social issues in both Japan and the United States. Hearing the experiences of distinguished Sophia alumni active in the United States made the gathering particularly meaningful and enriching.
We would be most delighted to welcome Sophia alumni to future DC Sophia Alumni Association events when visiting Washington, DC. In closing, I sincerely wish all Sophians continued success and happiness in their endeavors.
