灼熱の夏の終わりに恒例となった
「夏を惜しむソフィアンBBQ」開催しました！

8月25日（日）、今ではベルギーソフィア会名物となったお庭でのBBQを開催しました！
今年は日本でも報道されるほどの酷暑日が繰り返し、干ばつ、森林火災が不安を募らせた夏でしたが、その灼熱の日々もあっという間に過ぎ去り、爽やかな快晴の一日となりました。
もう恒例となった前菜バーには、前夜にバカンス先の仏ブロターニュから持ち帰ったばかりの新鮮な生牡蠣が山ほど！極上牛肉、粗挽きソーセージ、鶏肉や子羊、マリネした夏野菜のブロシェットなど、バラエティ満点のBBQが出そろい、デザートバーにはお手製のプリンの他、美味しいブラウニーやタルトがぞろり。今年も食いしん坊すぎて、見事なビュッフェの写真を撮り忘れ！来年こそは！
食後は子ども達大喜びの露天風呂での水遊び。今年は新顔ベビーが1人増え、来年もまた一人増えそうで、人口減少の顕著な昨今、嬉しい限りです。
ベルギーをもっと知ろうアクティビティ型ソフィア会は、ブリュッセル以外で企画してみようかなと思っています。

Our now-annual "Sophian BBQ to Bid Summer Farewell" was held!
On Sunday, August 25th, we threw our garden BBQ -- by now a Belgium Sophia-kai classic! This summer brought repeated heatwaves severe enough to make the news even in Japan, along with droughts and wildfires that left everyone worried. But those scorching days vanished in a flash, leaving us with one gorgeously clear, crisp day for the occasion.
Our now-traditional starter bar was decorated with fresh oysters, carried by the Furusawa family straight the day before from a Brittany vacation! On top of that came a BBQ spread bursting with variety -- top-notch beef, coarsely ground sausages, chicken, lamb, skewers of marinated summer veggies -- while the dessert table groaned under homemade pudding, brownies, and tarts. Once again, we all got so busy stuffing our faces that nobody remembered to photograph the gorgeous buffet! Next year, for real this time!
After lunch, the kids splashed around in Rotenburo. We welcomed one new baby this year, with another apparently on the way for next year -- wonderful news given how much everyone worries about shrinking populations these days!
As for our "let's get to know Belgium better" activity-style Sophia-kai gatherings, I'm thinking of planning the next one somewhere outside Brussels.
