12月7日（日）、年忘れベルギーソフィア会を開催しました！

ブリュッセルでもクリスマス・マーケットが始まる頃、今年も冬らしい雰囲気満点のチーズフォンデュとラクレットを囲む年忘れソフィア会を開催しました。当日は、ドイツからも4人の若者が参加してくれたので、広がりのあるソフィア会となりました。
鍋料理が恋しくなるこの季節――フォンデューとラクレットは、日本から遠く離れた欧州で、気の置けないソフィアの仲間たちと、ワイワイガヤガヤ、ちょっとした鍋料理気分が楽しめます。その後、ベルギーらしい霧雨の中、旧市街に繰り出してグランプラスへ。クリスマス・デコレーションの施された大きなもみの木とイエス誕生のクレッシュを眺めました。今年のクレッシュはキリスト教色をなるべく払拭したデザイン性の高いものという前触れでしたが、評判は今一つ...。クリスマス・マーケットで、ホットワインならぬホットビールと、この時期だけ売られる幼子イエスをかたどったクニュという甘いパンなどと物色しながらぶらぶらと。フォンデュー＆ラクレットとクリスマス散策は、これからもベルギーソフィア会の恒例行事になりそうです。

On Sunday, December 7, we held our year-end Belgium Sophia Gathering!
As the Christmas markets begin in Brussels, we once again held our year-end Sophians' gathering, enjoying cheese fondue and raclette--perfect for the wintry atmosphere. This year, four young Sophians joined us from Germany, making it an especially lively and far-reaching event.
This is the season when we start craving Nabé hot pot. Fondue and raclette let us enjoy that cozy, communal feeling here in Europe, far from Japan, chatting and laughing with our Sophia friends in a relaxed atmosphere.
Afterwards, we headed into the old city-center through the characteristically Belgian misty drizzle and made our way to the Grand-Place, where we admired the large fir tree adorned with Christmas decorations and the nativity scene. We had heard that this year's nativity scene would focus less on Christian symbolism and feature a more modern, design-oriented style--but the reviews were lukewarm...
We strolled through the Christmas market, browsing hot beer (instead of mulled wine) and cougnou, a sweet bread shaped like the infant Jesus that is sold only during this season. It looks like fondue and raclette followed by a Christmas stroll will continue to be a beloved annual tradition for the Belgium Sophia community.
In March 2026 we will visit Gueze beer brewery/museum, the traditional craftbeer brewery of Brussels!
