第三回「夏を惜しむソフィアンBBQ」開催

8月24日（日）、ベルギーソフィア会名物、お庭でのBBQ大会を、今年も無事開催しました！ 夏の初めに、「調整さん」を使って最も参加者の多い日を慎重に選んだおかげで、大人17名、子ども5名、総勢22名（＋主催者の栗田とBBQ係の夫と愛犬スカイラー）で、賑やかな会となりました。
快晴・最高気温22℃はベルギーの夏の終わりとしてはベストなお日和。庭のグリーンハウス採れたカラフルなトマトたちのサラダ、野菜畑からのレタスで作ったグリーンサラダやジャガイモで作ったポテサラ、さらに夏らしいバラエティあるサラダ・ビュッフェの後、それぞれが持ち寄ったお肉や野菜を炭火の上のグリルに乗せてBBQ。中にはブラジル風鶏のハツの串焼きや、著名魚店からの魚介類も登場。
デザートビュッフェには、ベルギー・パティシエによる絶品のイチゴやフランボワーズタルト、お手製の大きなティラミス、かわいいカップケーキが並び、皆大ハッピー。過行く夏を惜しみながら晩夏の午後のひと時を歓談しながら過ごすことができました。
いつも同じような写真ばかりなので、来年は、ビュッフェやBBQグリル、子ども達が楽しむ露天風呂などの写真を撮ってシェアしようと思います。
次回は、クリスマスマーケットの頃でしょうか。季節はあっという間に、秋を過ぎ、長い暗い寒い冬へと向かうことになりそうです。

Third Sophia BBQ - Saying Goodbye to Summer
On Sunday, August 24, we held our annual Sophia BBQ Party in the garden--one of our little traditions! Thanks to using Chousei-san to carefully pick the date that worked best for most people, we ended up with 17 adults and 5 kids, a total of 22 participants (plus myself as a host family), my husband as BBQ chef, and our mischievous Skylar). It turned into a lively, fun gathering.
The weather couldn't have been better--clear sky and a perfect 22℃, just right for late summer in Belgium. We started with a salad buffet featuring colorful tomatoes from our greenhouse, green salad and potato salad made with homegrown lettuce and potatoes, and many more summerly salads. Then it was BBQ time, with everyone grilling the meats and veggies they had brought. Highlights included Brazilian-style chicken heart skewers and fresh seafood from a well-known fishmonger.
For dessert, we had a beautiful spread: a stunning strawberry, raspberry and citron tarts made by a famous Belgian pâtissier, a giant homemade tiramisu, and some adorable cupcakes. Needless to say, everyone was thrilled! It was the perfect way to savor the last moments of summer--sharing good food and conversation on a late-summer afternoon.
Since the photos always look the same every year, next time I'll make sure to capture the splendid buffet, the sizzling grill, and the kids enjoying the outdoor bath to share with everyone.
Our next gathering will be around the Christmas markets. Autumn will fly by quickly, and before we know it, we'll be heading into the long, dark, cold Belgian winter...
