DC/NY Sophia-kai/SGC Joint Zoom Meeting hosted by the Int'l Committee
On August 21st, 2020, the Washington DC Sophia University Alumni Association (SUAA) and the New York SUAA, and the Sophia Georgetown Students Connecting (SGC), jointly participated in a zoom meeting hosted by the USAA International Committee for the first time. Three members from the NY & DC chapters participated while SGC and USAA International Committee members joined the call from Tokyo. In total, 18 people were in attendance.
The participants broke up into two groups to further discuss the following topics: 1) the strengths of US and Japanese businesses, 2) job hunting processes during the COVID-era in the US, 3) people's attitudes and understanding of health issues, 4) remote working, and 5) the future of US-China relationship. Participants enthusiastically contributed to the discussion based on their own experiences, what they know from the news, and from their own individual comprehension of the world, making the conversation meaningful and aspiring.
We also discussed our aim to be more connected with all Sophia-kai members here in the US, including with Sophia-exchange students studying here on the East Coast. We confirmed that we would work with the Sophia University Student Center to foster stronger connections between Sophia-Kai and potential exchange students from Sophia University.
Finally, I believe that having a chance to meet with Sophian-alumni overseas, and enjoying deep conversations with them will be helpful in opening up student's viewpoints and aspiration for their future. Learning a lot from the long overseas experience many alumni have will continue to be a priceless experience for future Sophian international students.
