NY Sophia-kai holds fund-raising event for quake-hit Kumamoto

The Sophia University Alumni Association, New York Chapter (New York Sophia-kai) threw an event in Brooklyn on April 27 to raise funds for Kumamoto Prefecture, which heavily suffered from powerful earthquakes.
Bringing together 14 New York Sophia-kai members and others, the event was a huge success. More than $600 was raised on the spot and the total amount has since swollen to $987 (about 108,000 yen) as many other good-hearted people who were unable to attend the event chipped in.
The New York Sophia-kai sent the donation to the Sophia Fund for the Future via wire transfer in early July, which will be presented to Sophia University's Volunteer Bureau and used as part of travel costs for students who will visit Kumamoto and engage in reconstruction assistance as volunteers.
