Welcome Dinner for President Terumichi

On Tuesday, May 30th after the Memorial Day weekend, we had a welcome dinner for President Terumichi at a Cosmos Club's private dining room in Washington D.C. Vice President Morishita and Ms. Yoshino from the Office of Global Education and Collaboration attended with the President, as they were visiting Washington D.C. at the time joining as panelists at NAFSA's Annual conference.
About 20 members from Washington D.C. Sophia alumni association joined the dinner to welcome them. Mr. Kiyoshi Nakasaka, a Cosmos Club member and a member of the alumni association,
generously offered this place, the same location when President Terumichi visited D.C. in 2018. He was happy to be able to visit Washington D.C. again and see some familiar faces.
After enjoying the specially prepared delicious dinner at the cozy dining room, we learned about the unique position of Sophia University among other Japanese colleges and their plan to excel as the leader of global education programs. President Terumichi informed us that he is making progress to send more students outside of Japan as interns, but he needed more partners. It was impressive that many of the members were willing to help in any way possible.
Having moved from NY to the D.C. area about 3 years ago, this was my first time to join a meeting with the Sophia alumni association D.C. chapter, but the atmosphere was so welcoming that I felt completely comfortable immediately. I was pleasantly surprised to see a few familiar faces (i.e., moms from my kid's school), and it greatly helped for me to blend right in. I have always appreciated the tight community Sophians have and everyone I met at the Sophia alumni meetings so far were impressive and inspiring helping me feel fortunate to be a part of such community. After joining the dinner, just like the other D.C. Sophians, I also wanted to help our school as an alumna to keep this circle going.
