Current Responses to the Spreading COVID-19 Outbreak

2020年04月01日

As you are already aware, Sophia University cancelled the Graduation Ceremonies on March 24th and 25th, and the Entrance Ceremonies in April because COVID-19 was spreading. The date for classes to start has also been rescheduled from Monday, April 27th to Monday, May 25th.
Following the University's lead, Sophia University Alumni Association (SUAA) is currently taking the following response measures since the spread of infection is expected to be extensive and long-drawn-out particularly in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

-Responses-

  1. SUAA will not hold the 2020 Gold, Ruby, Silver and Bronze Anniversary Ceremonies (celebratory gatherings), or any events or lectures sponsored or co-sponsored by SUAA, including ASF, before the end of May. Whether or not these will be held at all will be reassessed at a later date.

  2. The Sophians Club will be closed from April 1st through May 24th, which is the day before university classes are currently scheduled to begin. We will keep you updated about when the Sophians Club will be open thereafter.
Those with reservations during this period will be contacted individually.

  3. Depending upon how effective COVID-19 control and prevention efforts are and how the situation evolves, events, lectures and other SUAA activities scheduled for June and beyond may be cancelled, postponed, or reduced in scope. Such matters will be determined after consulting those involved and we will keep you informed. At this point in time, preparations for these events are still moving forward as much as is feasible.

  4. Each registered organization is to refer to SUAA policy when making decisions about activities.
